The green matcha tea powder doesn’t just make the smoothie incredibly green, it’s also said to be good for body, mind and soul. Whether that’s really true, I can’t say, but the matcha bowl tastes wonderful, is healthy and is a great alternative on the breakfast table. And with chocolate granola it even makes you happy ;-).
If you love variety, you can combine different fruits, types of granola, nuts, etc. as toppings to suit your taste and put together your very own breakfast bowl.

Instructions
- Put 1.5 bananas (frozen, in chunks), 1 handful baby spinach, 150 ml almond milk, 1 tsp agave syrup or honey, 1 tsp matcha tea and 1 splash lime juice in a blender and blend on the highest setting into a thick smoothie.
- To serve, pour the matcha smoothie into a cereal bowl and decorate it, e.g. with 0.5 banana, 2 tbsp coconut chips and 1 handful granola, just as you like.
Tips
- If you like, you can try the matcha bowl with coconut milk. In that case, use 2/3 almond milk and 1/3 coconut milk.
- The bananas for the matcha bowl really should be frozen. To do this, cut ripe bananas into chunks and put them in a freezer bag or a plastic container. The frozen bananas keep for a few months and can also be used for smoothies, for example.
- The spinach can also be used frozen.
- The matcha bowl is also very tasty if you add a quarter / half an avocado. If so, adjust the amount of liquid if needed.
- Storage: Enjoy the bowl fresh and only freeze the banana slices ahead of time.

Frequently Asked Questions about Matcha Bowl
Can I use coconut milk instead of almond milk?
Yes, try a mix of 2/3 almond milk and 1/3 coconut milk. That makes the bowl even creamier.
Can I blend in other ingredients?
A quarter or half an avocado tastes great in it. You may need to adjust the amount of liquid. You can also use frozen spinach.
What toppings go well with a matcha bowl?
Banana slices, coconut chips and granola are a great start. Mix and match different fruits, nuts and granolas as you like. Chocolate granola makes it extra happy.
Can I store the matcha bowl?
The matcha bowl is best enjoyed right away. It melts quickly and turns runny and watery. It doesn’t keep well in the fridge. Only make as much as you’ll eat right then.
Can I freeze the matcha bowl?
I wouldn’t freeze the finished bowl, since it turns rock hard and icy. A better option: freeze sliced bananas ahead of time, just like in the recipe. Well wrapped, they keep for about 3 months. Then your bowl is ready in minutes in the morning.
